Business Stationery Design

The first exposure of your business to a potential client/customer is, in the majority of cases, through your business card or company stationery, so it vital that yours is eye catching, attention-grabbing and leaves a positive lasting impression on its viewer.  A business stationery set (which often consists of a business card, letterhead, compliment slip and envelope) is one of the key components of a full corporate identity and plays a very important role in your business’s professional image.

I recently had the opportunity to work on a corporate identity kit for two local Irish businesses.  Ireland Chauffeur Travel, a private guided tour expert, offer customised and personalised vacations and specialise in luxury custom tours of Ireland. My role to create a new identity for an existing business. This project involved the design of a new, professional logo, multiple business cards, letterhead and web banner.

I also had the pleasure of creating a new identity for Mary Gavin Hughes, the west coast of Ireland’s only female skipper and her world renowned sea angling business.  Clew Bay is riddled with hidden reefs and dotted with 365 islands, and it is around these waters that Clew Bay Angling offer deep sea fishing trips.  A business card, letterhead and compliment slip were designed to match the logo.

Have a client that has a business and is adding 2 new departments to that business and wants a logo for each one… and would like those departments added to the stationary design. I don’t recall ever seeing a design that had 3 different business names on it. If these 2 departments are successful the client eventually wants to have 3 separate businesses. Any suggestions on how to add the 2 names and their logos to a stationary layout with out it looking gawdy / tacky?

Hi Lydia, that’s a tricky one alright! It’s not the norm to have multiple company logos on one stationery package, however I suppose there’s no rule against it either. I would suggest adding them at a very reduced size in the corner if possible. Would really depend on the logo & stationery design itself though! Perhaps you could try to convince your client to keep the 3 separate, so that staff in one particular department use their own personalised stationery etc which is relevant to their particular clients/customers. You could also offer to create the packages for a reduced rate, i.e. they would have the same design – only different details?

Don't be shy, what do you think?
